JOURNAL | Turin restaurants open on Sundays/Mondays

Sundays and Mondays can be tough in Turin when it comes to finding a restaurant that's open, especially at dinner time. Sunday lunch is more of an occasion to dine out in these parts (for which a booking is essential), but there are a bunch of places – good ones, at that – that'll serve you on either day, daytime or evening, if you know where to look. I'm kind of scared of the tube, the supermarkets' overzealous plastic packaging is terrifying, and I'll never walk fast enough to keep up on the streets here (still very much going at an Italian pace) but what excites me about being in London is the sheer variety of people, cultures and activities around every corner. It's painfully expensive, but so diverse. Just off a busy main road in North London is this banya, a traditional Russian bathhouse where you can treat yourself to a parenie - a full-body thrashing with fragrant eucalyptus and birch branches inside a sauna - finished off with a hefty helping of homemade sauerkraut, beetroot kvass and mushroom & potato vareniki (in the adjoining restaurant... not the sauna). Getting to know this city little by little - in a bathrobe, no less. • #accidentallywesanderson #banya #prettycitylondon #traveldeeper The salmon drank up a salty gin and beetroot cocktail; we threw back a blood orange-aperol-prosecco number. Thanks to @laprevett for having a birthday while I'm in town, giving me the best excuse to dream up new/scary kitchen experiments, and to practise those egg-poaching skills you taught me! 🥔 • #gravadlax #aperolapril #brunchclub Easter egg hunting for grown-ups: Old Cotswold Legbar edition 🥚 • #blueeggs #heritagebreed #f52farmstand #lifeandthyme Two-day-old Kerry Hill lambs: bespectacled, angelical, cold-heart-meltable • #daylesfordorganic #heritagebreed #lambingseason
